Q and A with Aldo and CJ

Q and A with Aldo and CJ

We caught up with 2 club legends and Commercials 2018 panel members Aldo Mattassa and Conal McCullagh before Sunday's big game and asked them the questions we were all itching to ask.

Clonmel Commercials - Thanks for your time lads,  Hows your career going since you left Clonmel Commercials?

Conal - I decided to bring a mediocre football career to an end, it was downhill from about 2001

Aldo - Great, World series International champions of Scotland with Dunedin connollys  of Edinburgh. People said i wouldnt make it in the UK but i proved them wrong, where are they now!

CC -  Who has been your toughest opponent and why?

CJ - I once played against Cathal McCarron in Tyrone... but ill say Charlie McGeever, a massive test for any man’s self esteem

Aldo - That David Niblock guy was about 40 in the Munster Final but he was still their best player - did you see the snapback he was wearing after the game too. Proper baller.

CC- Proudest day for Commercials?

CJ - My first game for Commercials I scored 5 points from play and Tommy Morrissey still subbed me ffs. And there was another day I scored a point against Arravale and Aldo shouted “get up them stairs McCullagh boy”

Aldo - "the ending of the famine" with Cathal Mcgoo. What a moment.

CC - Who has been the biggest influence on your Commercials career?

CJ Fergal Condon definitely, a great man who taught me that you don’t really need any talent to play GAA

Aldo Probably lads who I played with starting out and are finished now, Hanna, Fergal o callaghan, Philly, Danny Madigan. I have great time for the old folks

CC - if you could transfer any one player from Tipperary to Commercials — who and why?

CJ - Seamus Kennedy should definitely transfer from Tipperary to Commercials

Aldo - Probably Cracker Fitz to be honest. Doubt him and fitzy are on good terms tho.

CC - What has been your biggest disappointment of your career?

CJ- Gaelic football probably

Aldo - When we beat Moyle rovers for the first time ever in a county final and my bird shows up in the pub after, that was a big disappointment

CC - Who has given your team the most memorable motivational speech ever — from inside the camp?

CJ - Aldo Matassa gave a rousing speech before we played Killenaule in the group stages a couple of years ago, went on for 45 minutes, we actually missed 10 minutes of the game

Aldo -  Cha! Before the 2015 county final he told me I was like a fine piece of china. Lovely to look at but easy break. Inspirational stuff.

CC - Who is the joker on the panel?

CJ - Luke Moore once claimed he went out with Roz Purcell.

Aldo - Flynners was actually good craic before he got a bird

CC - Who is the best trainer?

CJ - Michael Quinlivan

Aldo - Michael Quinlivan hands down

CC - Who is the best dressed?

CJ - Kevin Harney

Aldo - Paulo used to dress well in fairness. Although I haven't seen him since fergals stag in which he didn't have a stitch on him all weekend.

CC - Who is the worst dressed?

CJ - Cathal McGeever tends to get dressed in the dark

Aldo - Have you ever seen mccullaghs high top shoes? Hahahahaha

CC Who is the ladies' man of the panel?

CJ - Kevin Harney

Aldo -  Fergal Condon

CC - on to Sunday's final, you prob lost more games to Killenaule than you own over years. What makes them such formidable opponents?

CJ - Very wristy and they'll set up well so they'll be rotten to play against. Wouldn't suit me at all !

Aldo - I prob wouldnt get on their team that will tell you how good they are!

CC - Any tips for the lads before the big game?

CJ - Just be yourself.

Aldo  - Pull hard and often!
